Get Smart - Take Art!
Harold
Roberts is the art teacher for the three dimensional courses at CHS and
brings 16 years of experience to the art department. Shannon
Werner-Purkey teaches all the two dimensional courses and the AP Art
History course. She brings 7 years of experience to the art department.
Creativity, critical thinking and
problem solving are all stressed in each art course, in addition to the
Indiana art state standards. Central art students have competed and won
awards in local, regional, and state competitions. Artwork from former
Central students is on permanent display throughout our school. Members
of the Central art club have completed reproduction murals of Georges
Seurat’s A Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jatte and Pablo Picasso’s Guernica
which are also on permanent display in our commons. At the end of the
school year, about 250 works of two dimensional and three dimensional
works of art are on display at the Central High School Art Show at
Springleaf Financial. Springleaf Financial also helps with our annual
art fundraiser. Each year Central art students design and create cards
for Springleaf Financial Services. Their graphic designers choose two
designs that they use as their company holiday card. We use the images
chosen by Springleaf Financial for our annual art department fundraiser.
